Meet Our MaineAEYC Executive Director!

Dear Members and Friends of MaineAEYC,

My name is Tara Williams, and I’m the new Executive Director of the Maine Association for the Education of Young Children. I am committed to our Board, our membership, our presence in federal and state public policy, and our collective professional learning.

I studied early childhood education in my undergraduate program at Boston University and in my masters in leadership at Bank Street College. I worked in research and policy positions at the National Wildlife Federation and the National Council on Teacher Quality. In previous leadership roles, I mentored teachers and served on a school board. And most importantly, I have been a teacher in public, charter, and private school programs with children from birth to grade 3. My husband and I have two young children and a very energetic dog. Our family loves exploring the beautiful outdoors of Maine. In my personal life, cooking is my passion, running keeps me active, meditation gives me clarity, and reading at the beach brings me joy.

As your Executive Director, I promise to help advance our profession and work on behalf of the needs, rights, and well being of all young children in Maine. I hope to form closer relationships with MaineAEYC members and the greater early childhood community in our state. I would love to see you at one of our upcoming events in April. You are invited to our Spring Conference on April 8th and several Week of the Young ChildTM events around the state (details below).  Also, stay tuned for more information about a town hall style webinar with me on Wednesday evening, April 26th.

Feel free to reach out anytime with your thoughts, concerns, and questions.

Warmly,

Tara

Dear Early Childhood Educators, Advocates, Families, and Stakeholders,

The MaineAEYC, affiliate of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), will be sending representatives from our Public Policy Committee to the 2017 NAEYC Public Policy Forum in Washington, D.C. from February 26th-28th.  www.NAEYC.org

While being briefed in the current national public policy landscape and learning about NAEYC’s Power to the Profession Initiative,  we will also participate in a ‘Day on the Hill.’  We have requested meetings with the offices of Senator Collins, Senator King, Representative Pingree, and Representative Poliquin.

We are conducting a survey for stakeholders to offer feedback to personally hand to each office.

We appreciate your time in taking this survey and are honored to bring your voice to Washington, D.C.

If you would like more information or have any questions, please contact us at meaeyc@gmail.com.

Take survey here:
