Position Overview:
Breakwater is seeking an experienced Early Childhood Aftercare Lead Teacher/Coordinator to care for and teach children (18 months - 5 years) in a developmentally responsive program through play based, emergent curriculum rooted in a celebration of the natural world and in accordance with Breakwater's mission, core beliefs, and teaching model.
Skills & Responsibilities:
● Demonstrate up to date knowledge and skills in the implementation of best practices in early childhood education and child development.
● Cultivate strong, respectful relationships with children and families.
● Effectively collaborate with early childhood colleagues
● Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
● Be a participating member of our toddler to eighth grade faculty including contributing to all school-wide events that support community building, development, and admissions.
Preferred qualifications and experience:
● At least 2 years lead early childhood teaching experience
● Early childhood teaching experience in Reggio Emilia inspired and/or nature based educational program preferred Compensation:
● $18/hour
● The state of Maine provides monthly stipends to all early childhood professionals ranging from $240-$540/month based on education and experience.

The person selected for this position will be under the direct supervision of Youth & Family Director and will be responsible for providing an appropriately safe, caring, and enriching environment for the children enrolled in Y Care/Summer Camp.
In the site director role, you will build relationships with parents, school staff, students, Y team members, and manage/help manage sites in Brunswick, MSAD75, and RSU1.
In the summer camp lead role, you will continue to build relationships with parents, participants, Y team members, and manage an assigned age group.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervising youth and presenting positive role modeling through all interactions with program participants.
Create and organize activities that will teach new skills and actively involve participants.
To meet and understand program goals/rules/procedures as outlined in the State of Maine Child Care Licensing Rule Book, staff handbook, and family handbook.
To keep confidentiality, loyalty, and practice professionalism.
Extremely reliable and dependable.
Work a flexible schedule to meet program staffing/planning needs.
Exercise mature judgment and sound decision making.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Learn, follow, and enforce local Y and national guidelines related to internal policies.
Perform CACFP and SFSP duties as assigned.
Provide guidance on school age topics/lessons.
Keep track of snacks/lunches at assigned site (snack count/lunch count and snack pick up).
Be responsible for site issues, conflicts, and resolutions.
Mandatory/active participation in community days and Kids Night Out.
Follow up weekly with Youth & Family Director
Supervise site staff and appropriate coverage to meet required ratios.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training & Work Experience
HS Diploma or General Equivalent Diploma (GED), Associates Degree preferred.
Experience working with children of varied ages.
A demonstrated ability to provide structure to youth and run meaningful activities & games.
Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Certifications
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from participants and/or administration.
Ability to write reports that conform to prescribed style and format.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions that deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
