Professional Learning Tree

The Professional Learning Tree is a focus group led by the Network Coordinator to support and train teachers and professionals practicing outdoor nature based learning. This group has their finger on the pulse of the needs of the field by attending, contributing to and organizing various professional development opportunities around the state. Our primary focus is on making connections and creating professional learning opportunities through collaboration with others. Please reach out to our Network Coordinator at meeco@maineaeyc.org with questions or to learn how to get involved.

Professional learning Tree Projects:

  • Professional Learning Communities: MeECO is involved in various PLCs and CoPs around the state that focus on outdoor nature-based learning. We hold our own as well as partner with other organizations to provide content expertise, specific presentations and outreach. We can also serve as a guest speaker at non-outdoor focused groups, classes or organizations.

    • Outdoor Learning Childcare Director’s PLC: 2nd Friday of each month at 12:00pm. Runs September through June. Email meeco@maineaeyc.org to sign up.

  • Conferences: Stay current on upcoming regional and national conferences focused on Nature Based Learning by joining our newsletter. You'll see us at many of these larger professional development events around our state, specifically the Statewide Early Childhood Conference, Maine Environmental Education Association’s Conference, and In Bloom Maine.

  • Higher Education: MeECO collaborates with higher education institutions to promote and enhance outdoor education offerings made at our colleges and universities. We have a strong partnership with University of Maine Farmington Early Ed Department where the first Outdoor Education Certificate Program is being offered in our state. Antioch University continues to be a strong partner and resource as well. Both programs are linked below.
